Engagement Sessions: What to Wear

One of the most common questions I get from my clients as we prepare for the engagement session is: “What should I wear?”
If this sounds like a question you would have, then you are in luck! There are three things to keep in mind as you make your clothing choices for your engagement session.

Comfort
First and foremost, you should feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. When you’re comfortable and feel good in what you’re wearing, that will translate beautifully in your photographs. A good rule of thumb would be to dress like it’s date night. Ladies, if you’re not used to wearing stilettos and the times you do happen to wear them, you feel like you can’t walk–then your engagement session might not be the place for you to bring them out. If you’re comfortable in a pants suit or flats, then by all means, you better rock out that pants suit or those flats. The point is, wear whatever make you feel the happiest and most comfortable version of your self.

Colors
There are so many different options when it comes to colors. When choosing colors to wear along with your fiancé, I would suggest color coordinating and not being super matchy. Similar color tones (not necessarily exact same colors) work best. Also, solid colors photograph wonderfully. Personally, I’m a very big fan of earth tones, as they blend in with almost any backdrop. Also, avoid busy prints as they can be very distracting in your photographs.

Location
Keep your engagement session location in mind when choosing your wardrobe. For instance, if you’re taking your photos out in the middle of an open field, you’ll probably want to wear something outdoorsy and easy to move around in. If your session is in a location that has an elegant setting, you might want to opt for something more on the formal side.

These are just a few tips to help you plan for your engagement session. Stay tuned for more!
