Kauffman Center + Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Engagement Session: Kinyon + Tamika

March 21, 2024

A trip to Florida resulted in an incredible romance for Kansas City natives Tamika and Kinyon. After a trying year, Tamika’s friends flew her to Panama City for a weekend getaway. While she was there, her friends asked her if she happened to know who Kinyon was because he was in town and she might run into him. She looked him up on social media, messaged him, and they agreed to meet up over drinks the night before he was to return home. Their connection was immediate. They spent the whole night talking and getting to know each other (even shutting the bar down), and then taking a walk on the beach. They had a great time together, so much so that Kinyon changed his flight and pushed it back a day so that they could spend the day together. After that, the rest was history!

I had such a great time capturing these two lovebirds. They were such troopers getting up at sunrise (well technically, before sunrise) to venture around downtown Kansas City for their engagement session. Here are some of their images from that morning.

We started off at the Kauffman Center of the Performing Arts right as the sun was rising. As this is a very popular photo spot, I wanted to come at sunrise to avoid any crowds that there might be and to minimize the likelihood of city traffic driving through.

And then we had the sun peeking through!

These two are so stylish! I loved what they were wearing! It really fit with the locations where we photographed.

When we finished up at Kauffman, we drove on over to Nelson-Atkins. These columns and doors are my fave!

Pennies hold a great significance to Tamika because of her late mother. This penny also just so happened to have been minted the same year that Tamika and Kinyon met 🙂

These two were so wonderful to work with and I am honored to have had the pleasure of capturing their love on camera.
